On October 10, 2024, members of the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department visited the Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School to promote fire prevention. Students attended a presentation on fire safety and had the opportunity to tour the fire apparatus. During the tour, children were encouraged to ask questions about the tools and equipment on the rigs and their uses. Some even had the chance to spray water from engine 63-14!
To help keep your family safe, please follow these three essential steps:
1. Install:
Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (such as hallways), and on every level of your home, including the basement.
2. Test:
Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button.
3. Replace:
Replace all smoke alarms when they reach 10 years of age or if they fail to respond during testing (check the expiration date on the bottom of the detector).
Additionally, it’s wise to have at least one carbon monoxide detector. On Amazon, you can find combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for a reasonable price.
