Grant Street 2nd Alarm Working House Fire

Volunteers & Community Since 1908.

Just before midnight, the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department was dispatched to 51 Grant Street, Schuylkill Haven Borough for a working house fire with entrapment. As units became en-route it was advised by SCCC that child may be trapped on the second floor. Crews arrived and immediately forced entry through the front door with the first hand-line. It was then advised the child called 911 from a neighboring house clearing the entrapment.

63-14 laid in from the hydrant at Main and Grant Streets, and deployed multiple handlines inside and outside to protect exposure buildings. Tower 63-22 had the A side of the building and went to work both inside and on the roof. Ladder 63-21 and Engine 63-17 accessed the scene through a back alley.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 1 hour. A Liberty firefighter was injured after a collapse in the stairwell. The firefighter has since made a full recovery.

Units on scene included the SHFD, Pottsville City RIT, and Orwigsburg for added man-power.
