July 23, 2014 – At 16:39hrs the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department was dispatched to 213 Saint Peter Street for a house fire. Just as units began to respond, a member from Station 2 advised the SCCC (Schuylkill County Communications Center) of smoke showing in the area. Chief 723 arrived on scene shortly thereafter, and confirmed a working attic fire.
Crews from all 3 companies initiated an aggressive interior attack on division III and pulled ceilings on division II. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within the first 20 minutes and crews remained on scene for approximately 2 hours while performing overhaul and salvage.
The cause of the fire has been determined as a lighting strike to the roof area of the home. Severe storms containing cloud to ground lighting passed through the area moments before the call was made to the 911 center.
As the SHFD was on scene at the house fire, 2 other calls to their district were also transmitted — a landing zone and a tree down.
